Eleven beaches in Cancun reported to be seaweed-free

On the current situation of sargassum, also known as seaweed, on the beaches of Cancun, the Citizen Observatory of Sargazo reported that the beaches free of seaweed are Las Perlas, Langosta, Tortugas, Caracol, Punta Cancún, Gaviota Azul y Lagarto, Chac Mool, Marlín, Ballenas and Delfines.

They pointed out that the beaches with little sargassum in Cancun are El Niño and Puerto Juarez, while the one with abundant algae is Punta Nizuc and with excessive sargassum are Riviera Cancun, Moon Palace and Petempich Bay.

The Sargasso is a marine macroalga that reached the crystalline coasts of Quintana Roo and its arrival will not be temporary. The arrival of sargassum will continue until reaching a figure that could exceed one million tons in 2019, the Sargasso Monitoring Network estimated.
